Changes in the Best-Selling Electric Cars List in Sweden in 2011 and 2012

The Swedish market for new electric passenger vehicles more than doubled between 2011 and the first half of 2012. The total number of electric vehicles remains, however, very small compared to the total Swedish car market of 142,633 vehicles during the first half of 2012.

The most popular electric car in Sweden in 2011 was the Mitsubishi iMiev, however, it slipped to insignificance in 2012. The technologically similar Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn also saw sales slipping fast.

The new Nissan Leaf and Opel Ampera (not considered by all to be a truly EV) were the market leaders during the first half of 2012. The Volvo C30 Electric also remained a popular choice with buyers of electric cars in Sweden with sales double that of the previous year.
