Best-Selling New Passenger Cars in Switzerland in 2010 (Full Year)

The VW Golf in 2010 not only remained Switzerland’s most popular car but increased both the number of Golfs sold and the model’s market share. In 2009, 9,726 VW Golfs were sold in Switzerland compared to 12,155 in 2010. The Volkswagen Golf was thus almost as popular as the second and third best-selling car models combined.

The Skoda Octavia maintained its second position on the list of best-selling car models in Switzerland in 2010 despite a small drop in the number of cars sold. Sales of the VW Polo almost doubled and the Polo improved its position from tenth in 2009 to third in 2010.

The Opel Astra vastly improved sales and relative position on the best-selling list in Switzerland shooting up from 28th in 2009 to fourth most popular car model. Audi had a relatively weak year in 2010 – the Audi A4 slipped from third to fifth and the Audi A3 from fifth to tenth.

Renault, in contrast, had a strong year in Switzerland in 2010 to become the second-largest manufacturer with the Mégane improving ten positions to seventh place.

Volkswagen had a strong year too. Five of the top twenty best-selling car models were from the Volkswagen brand.  A further four models were from the Volkswagen Group – Audi (2), Skoda, and Seat.
