In full-year 2025, car sales in Mexico increased to a new record level, with Nissan the top brand and the Nissan Versa the best-selling model.

2025 (January to December): New light vehicle sales in Mexico increased and are estimated to have reached a record 1,625,722 cars. The top-selling car brands in Mexico remained Nissan, Chevrolet (GM), and Volkswagen. The favorite car models of Mexico remained the Nissan Versa and Chevrolet Aveo.
Mexican Car Market in 2025
The Mexican light vehicle market is estimated to have increased by 8.1% to 1,625,722 cars in 2025. This sets a new record high ahead of the 1,607,165 cars sold in 2016.
Carmakers traditionally report annual car sales to the AMDA, an association of Mexican automobile distributors. Reporting is not obligatory. Several carmakers, including most Chinese brands, opted not to report to AMDA in 2025.
The number of light vehicles, including passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs, and vans, reported to AMDA as having been sold in Mexico in 2025 increased 1.4% to 1,524,638 vehicles. This marked the fifth consecutive year of growth, and at least the third-largest annual Mexican car market.
Market analyst Jaime Pedraza, as published in Publimetro of 12 January 2026, estimated that non-reported sales would increase the market to 1,625,722 vehicles in 2025. His number includes the three largest Chinese car brands in Mexico, with 2025 sales estimated at 75,157 for BYD, 22,258 for Geely, and 19,308 for Changan.

The Nissan Versa continued its traditional position as Mexico’s favorite car model despite slightly weaker sales in 2025. The compact model was again followed by the Chevrolet Aveo (subcompact) and the Nissan NP300 (pick-up / SUV).
The two Mazda models, the CX-30 and 2, improved the most, with sales in Mexico increasing by over a fifth in 2025. The worst-performing top model was the Volkswagen Virtus, with sales down by a fifth.
Seven of the top ten best-selling car models in Mexico in 2025 were produced inside Mexico. The three exceptions were the Chevrolet Aveo (China), the VW Virtus (India), and the Hyundai Grand 110 (India).
Mexican car production in 2025 decreased by 0.9% to 3,953,494 vehicles, of which 3,385,785 (-2.7%) were exported.
