Britain’s Favorite Electric Car Models in 2025

Only six of the ten most popular electric car models in Britain in 2025 were also on the list in 2024. This reflects the fast development of the British electric car market. In 2025, the number of BEV models available in the UK increased from 130 to 160, with a further 60 expected during 2026.

In 2025, the Tesla Model Y was the top-selling electric car model in Britain for the fourth consecutive year. Although sales volume was weaker for the second year running, it still outsold the Model 3, which moved back into second place with higher sales.

The Audi Q4 e-tron slipped back to third and was followed by the Audi Q6 e-tron, a new entrant on the list.

The Ford Explorer, a new model based on the Volkswagen ID4 platform, was fifth despite only being on sale for part of the year.

The BMW i4 slipped one ranking position. The Skoda Enyaq maintained its 7th place from a year ago. It was followed by two new entrants: the Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq.

The Volvo EX30 slipped one position despite stronger sales.

Although four of the top ten electric cars were from the Volkswagen Group, and the Ford Explorer being on a Volkswagen platform, no VW-branded model made it into the top ten most popular car models in the UK in 2025.

In 2025, the new car market in Britain increased 3.5% to 2,020,520 newly registered passenger vehicles. Volkswagen was the top-selling brand in the UK for the fifth consecutive year. The Ford Puma was again the favorite car model of the British in 2025, and the Tesla Model Y remained the best-selling battery-electric car in the UK.
