Largest Carmakers in France in 2025
The Renault Group became the largest carmaker in France in 2025, with sales up only 1.2%. Renault thus replaced Stellantis as the top car manufacturer in France.
Stellantis sales were down 7%, with Citroen the only large brand in the group to increase car sales in France in 2025. Fiat sales were 38% lower, and Opel sales were down by a fifth.
The Volkswagen Group was again the largest foreign carmaker in France in 2025. The Group sales were down 2.2%, which allowed for almost half a percentage point market share gain. Strong Cupra sales were balanced by similarly lower Seat sales.

For the third consecutive year, Renault, Peugeot, and Dacia were the top-selling car brands in France in 2025. Renault increased sales while Peugeot and Dacia sales were lower, and roughly in line with the declining market.
Citroen reclaimed its traditional fourth place with sales up by 4% — a rare positive for Stellantis in France in 2025.
Volkswagen similarly regained its traditional position as the leading foreign car brand in France. VW sales were 7% weaker, making it really Toyota麓s 14% weaker sales that led to the swapped positions.
