Toyota easily maintained its position as the top-selling car brand in the USA in the first half of 2026. In 2026 Q2, Toyota sales were up 2.6% following the brand’s best-ever first quarter in the US.
Sales of the two largest traditional American car brands were sharply lower at the start of 2026. Ford sales were down by more than a tenth, while Chevrolet sales contracted by nearly 6% during the first two quarters of 2026. Vehicle sales were strong in the first half of 2025, when many buyers brought forward purchases due to the uncertainty of tariffs.
The larger Asian brands performed fairly well in the USA during the first half of 2026. Toyota remained the market leader while Honda strengthened its grip on fourth place.
