In the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, the Ford F-Series was the top-selling light vehicle model in the USA, but the Honda CR-V was the best-selling SUV, while the Toyota Camry remained America’s favorite passenger car model.

2026 (January to March): the Ford F-Series continued its tradition as the best-selling vehicle model in the USA, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado. The Honda CR-V moved into third, as the Toyota RAV4 dropped out of the top ten due to a classic model change dip. The Toyota Camry was the top-selling traditional passenger car in the US in 2025.
- GM was the top vehicle producer and Toyota the top-selling car brand in the USA in 2026 (Q1).

Best-Selling Vehicle Models in the United States in 2026 (Q1)
U.S. new vehicle sales in the first quarter of 2026 show a market still firmly led by pickup trucks, with the Ford F-Series comfortably retaining its long-standing position as the best-selling model. Although F-Series sales were sharply down, the Ford remained unchallenged as America’s favorite vehicle at the top of the rankings.
Among the closest competitors, the Chevrolet Silverado remained broadly stable, with sales of 128,818 units, down just 0.7% year-on-year. In contrast, the Ram Pick Up was one of the standout performers of the quarter, surging by 25% to 98,425 units and closing the gap significantly on its Detroit rivals. GMC Sierra volumes slipped slightly by 3.7%, suggesting a mixed performance across General Motors’ full-size truck lineup.
America’s Favorite Passenger Cars in 2026 (Q1)
Passenger cars showed a modest revival, at least for Toyota. The Toyota Camry remained America’s favorite sedan with sales increasing by 11.3% to 78,255 units, but moved up from the eighth most popular model in 2025 (Q1) to fifth in 2026.
The smaller Toyota Corolla also performed strongly, rising 12.8% and moving from 13th to 9th, while the Honda Civic edged down slightly, from 12th position to 13th. These gains hint at renewed interest in sedans, likely driven by pricing pressures and improved availability compared to recent years.
America’s Favorite SUVs in 2026 (January to March)
Compact and midsize SUVs presented a more varied picture. The Honda CR-V moved up one sales position and was America’s top-selling non-truck model despite a 3.8% decline. The Nissan Rogue, however, gained momentum with a 13.0% increase (up two sales positions). Sales of the Chevrolet Equinox were lower, dropping the model from 7th to 10th most popular in the USA.
The most striking development was the collapse in Toyota RAV4 sales, which fell by 48.1% to just under 60,000 units. The RAV4 slipped from the third-most popular vehicle in the USA in 2025 to only 13th in the first quarter of 2026. Given the model’s traditional position as one of America’s best-selling vehicles, this dramatic decline is due to supply constraints during the model changeover rather than a sudden drop in demand.
