Top Ten Best-Selling Car Models in Europe in 2025

For the second consecutive year, the Dacia Sandero was the top-selling car model in Europe over a full calendar year, despite sales slipping by nearly a tenth. The Sandero has been in the top three since 2021 and has been the most popular car with private buyers in Europe since 2017. In Europe, nearly one in 55 cars sold was a Sandero, while in the retail market, it was one in 28 cars. Total worldwide sales totalled 289,295 Sanderos in 2025.

Another Renault Group model, the Renault Clio, was the second-most-popular car in Europe in 2025. It is also the second consecutive year for the Clio in second place. Despite the popularity of the model, the Clio has never been the top-seller in Europe over a full calendar year.

The VW T-Roc returned to third after being fifth in 2024. The compact crossover SUV received a major model update towards the end of the year, which could add sales in 2026.

The VW Tiguan entered the top-ten list from 12th in 2024 and 20th in 2023. Sales were helped by a model update.

The VW Golf, the top-selling car model in Europe from 2008 to 2021, slipped from third to fifth. The aging Volkswagen Golf remains popular, especially in Germany, but an update is due in about two years.

The Toyota Yaris Cross improved one rank position for the second consecutive year despite weaker sales.

The Peugeot 208 again dropped one rank position. The Peugeot 208 was Europe’s favorite car model in 2022, with its predecessors the top-sellers in 2007 (207) and 2003 (206). The Peugeot 2008 entered the top 10 from 14th.

The Dacia Duster and Toyota Yaris were in the same positions as a year ago despite weaker sales.

The two cars dropping out of the top ten best-selling car models in Europe in 2025 were the Skoda Octavia (from 8th to 13th) and the Tesla Model Y. The Model Y was the top-selling car model in Europe in 2023, but slipped to 4th in 2024 (-17%) and to 15th in 2025 (-28%). In 2025, Tesla sold 151,550 Model Y cars in Europe — over 100,000 fewer than in 2023. It remained the best-selling electric car model in Europe.
