In full-year 2025, Germany was the largest new car market in Europe (EU, UK, and EFTA), but Spain was the fastest-growing large single European country vehicle market.

2025 (January to December): Germany remained by far the largest country market for cars in Europe, but new passenger vehicle registrations grew faster in the UK, with the British new car market again above 2 million units. New car markets in France and Italy contracted while the Spanish market grew by double-digits for a second consecutive year above a million vehicles. Car sales increased in most European countries in 2025.
The European new car market in 2025 expanded by 2.4% to 13,271,270 new passenger vehicle registrations. Germany was the largest European country and the leading electric car market. Volkswagen was the largest carmaker and best-selling electric car brand. The Dacia Sandero was again the top-selling car model in Europe in 2025.

Car Sales in European Countries in 2025 (Full Year)
In 2025, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, and Spain remained the largest five new car markets in Europe. The German new car market expanded by a low 1.4%, but growth is expected in 2026. The British passenger vehicle market grew by a faster 3.5% to exceed 2 million cars for the second consecutive year.
Car sales were lower in both France and Italy, with Belgium the only top-ten country to perform worse. The most improved top ten countries in 2025 were Spain, Austria, and Poland.
The fastest-growing European new car markets in 2025 were Iceland, Norway, and Lithuania, with sales up by around 40%. The worst-performing European countries were Estonia and Malta, but the contraction in Belgium and France made a much larger difference in sales volumes.
