In full-year 2025, Volkswagen and BMW were the top-selling car brands in Britain, with Ford improving to the third most popular marque in the UK.

2025 (January to December): Volkswagen was again the best-selling car brand in the UK, followed by BMW for the second consecutive year. Ford regained third place while Audi slipped to fifth behind Kia. Vauxhall failed to recover a top-ten position while BYD surpassed Tesla sales in Britain for the first time ever in full calendar-year 2025.

In 2025, the new car market in Britain increased 3.5% to 2,020,520 newly registered passenger vehicles. Volkswagen was the top-selling brand in the UK for the fifth consecutive year. The Ford Puma was again the favorite car model of the British in 2025, and the Tesla Model Y remained the best-selling battery-electric car in the UK.

Top 10 Largest Car Brands in the UK in 2025

For the fifth consecutive year, Volkswagen was the best-selling car marque in the UK. VW improved its market share in Britain to 8.84%.

Despite slightly weaker sales, BMW was the second-largest car brand in Britain for the second consecutive year.

Ford improved two positions to third with the strongest increases in car sales among the top-ten best-selling car brands in Britain in 2025. Kia remained fourth.

Audi slipped two rank positions with sales down by nearly a tenth. Hyundai improved from ninth while Nissan and Toyota maintained their positions despite weaker sales. Mercedes-Benz slipped to ninth from sixth.

MG maintained its tenth place with stronger sales. No new brands entered the top ten list in 2025.
