2024 (January to December): For the second consecutive year, the Ford Puma was the best-selling car model in the United Kingdom. The Kia Sportage gained second place while the Nissan Qashqai slipped to third. The top five car models in Britain were all SUVs, including the Tesla Model Y which remained Britain’s favorite battery electric car model in 2024. No Vauxhall made the top ten list.

In 2024, the new car market in Britain expanded slightly by 2.61%% to 1,952,778 newly registered passenger vehicles. Volkswagen was the top-selling brand in the UK for the fourth consecutive year. The Ford Puma was again the favorite car model of the British in 2024 and the Tesla Model Y remained the best-selling battery-electric car in the UK.

Britain’s Favorite Car Models in 2024

The Ford Puma was Britain’s best-selling car model for the second consecutive year despite slightly weaker sales. The Puma narrowly outsold the much improved Kia Sportage that moved up from fourth a year ago.

The Nissan Qashqai slipped one position to third — it was the top-selling car model in Britain in 2022. The Nissan Juke moved into fourth from eighth a year ago.

Despite weaker sales, the Tesla Model Y maintained its fifth position overall and was again the favorite electric car model of the British in 2024.

The Volkswagen Golf reentered the top-ten list after a year’s absence. VW was again the best-selling car brand in Britain in 2024. The Hyundai Tucson slipped one rank.

The MG HS and Volvo XC40 are new entrants. The Volkswagen Polo returned to the top ten list for the first time since 2021.

The cars slipping out of the top ten in Britain were the Vauxhall Corsa (from 3rd), Mini (7th), Audi A3 (9th), and Vauxhall Mokka (10th).
