In full-year 2025, the BMW 3 Series was the best-selling BMW car model worldwide and the X1 was the top-selling BMW SUV globally.

2025 (January to December): The BMW 3 Series / 4 Series remained the German car brand’s single largest model family worldwide, followed by the compact SUVs X1 / X2. The new BMW 5 Series was well received, with global sales up by a fifth. X3 sales were lower due to anticipated model changes in 2026. Electric car sales were slightly weaker, with all-electric car models accounting for a 15.5% share of BMW’s global sales in 2025.

Best-Selling BMW Models Worldwide in 2025
BMW’s global model mix in 2025 highlights the continued dominance of its core midsize and SUV ranges, while also revealing some notable shifts in demand across the lineup.
The BMW 3 Series / 4 Series remained the brand’s single largest model family worldwide, even as deliveries declined year-on-year. A new 3 Series is due in 2026.
Close behind, the X1 / X2 compact SUVs (best-selling BMW in Germany in 2025) and the X3 / X4 midsize SUVs together accounted for a substantial share of total sales, underlining BMW’s strong reliance on the SUV segment, especially in the USA. In fact, X models collectively make up well over half of BMW’s global volume, confirming the brand’s ongoing transition away from traditional sedan-heavy portfolios.
One of the standout performers in 2025 was the BMW 5 Series / 6 Series, which recorded a strong double-digit increase in sales due to the rollout of updated models. In contrast, the X3 / X4 saw one of the steepest declines among high-volume models, as buyers anticipate the updated model in this highly contested market segment.
At the top end of the range, flagship models such as the 7 Series / 8 Series and X7 remain niche contributors with relatively small volumes but play an important role in brand positioning. Similarly, low-volume models like the Z4 (final edition) and XM contribute minimally to total deliveries but significantly to marketing and, possibly, the bottom line.
Electrified BMW Sales in 2025
Electrification remains a key theme. Battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for roughly one-sixth of BMW’s total sales, although volumes declined slightly compared to the previous year. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), on the other hand, posted strong growth, indicating continued customer demand for transitional electrified powertrains.
Overall, BMW’s 2025 sales performance reflects a brand in transition: SUVs continue to drive volume, traditional sedans still anchor the lineup, and electrified models are steadily increasing their share—though momentum is uneven across different technologies. (From 2028, the BMW X5 will be offered with five different drivetrain technologies: battery electric, plug-in hybrid, petrol, diesel, and hydrogen fuel cell technology. )
