2026 (Q1): The Volkswagen Golf, Tiguan, and T-Roc were the top-selling car models in Germany during the first quarter of 2026.
Volksagen again produced the top three most popular cars in Germany during the first quarter of 2026. The VW Golf remained the best-selling car model in Germany, but the Tiguan swapped places with the T-Roc. The Skoda Octavia was fourth and the most popular foreign car model in Germany in 2026 (Q1). The Skoda Elroq was the top-selling electric car model in Germany in 2026 (Q1) and the seventh most popular car overall.
New passenger vehicle registrations in Germany during the first quarter of 2026 increased by 5.2% to 699,404 cars, with Volkswagen the best-selling car brand in 2026 (Q1).

Best-Selling Car Models in Germany in 2026 (Q1)
The Volkswagen Golf maintained its position as Germany’s best-selling car model at the start of 2026. The Golf was one of only two top-ten models in the same rank position as at the start of 2025.
The VW Tiguan and VW T-Roc swapped positions to give Volkswagen another clean sweep of the top three most popular cars in Germany in 2026 (Q1). Golf sales were flat, but the other two VW models had weaker sales
The Skoda Octavia moved up one position, confirming its role as Germany’s favorite imported car. The Opel Corsa improved from 8th a year ago, while the BMW X1 also improved one position.
The Skoda Elroq improved from 40th, but the 457% increase in sales is due to it being a new car. The Elqroq was the most popular battery-electric vehicle in Germany thus far in 2026.
The Audi A6 entered the top-ten list from 14th, while the VW Passat dropped from 4th to 9th. The Mercedes GLK again rounded out the top ten.
The two cars dropping out of the top ten from a year ago were the VW ID7 (9th to 19th) and the Seat Leon (6th to 24th).
