2026 (First Half Year): The best-selling car models in Germany were the Volkswagen Golf, VW T-Roc, VW Tiguan, and Opel Corsa.
During the first half of 2026, Volkswagen continued to dominate the German new car market with the three best-selling car models again VW models: the Golf, followed by the T-Roc, and Tiguan. The Opel Corsa and BMW X1 were the most popular non-VW models in Germany thus far in 2026. New passenger vehicle registrations in Germany increased by 5.5% to 1,484,393 cars (PKW) during the first half of 2026, with battery-electric car sales increasing by 48% to 368,006 all-electric cars. Volkswagen was the largest car brand and Skoda the best-selling electric car brand in Germany during the first six months of 2026.

Top 30 Best-Selling Car Models in Germany in 2026 (Half Year)
The top-three best-selling car models in Germany during the first half of 2026 were again the VW Golf, VW T-Roc, and the VW Tiguan. The Golf remains Germany’s most popular car model with sales up by nearly a thousand units and a percentage point increase in the share of Golfs in Volkswagen’s total sales in Germany thus far in 2026.
In Germany’s classification scheme, the Golf remained the best-selling compact car, the T-Roc the most popular SUV, and the Tiguan the top cross-country vehicle. The three Volkswagens and the Skoda Octavia were the only top-ten models without an electric version on sale.
The Opel Corsa was again the top-selling non-VW in Germany and increased sales from 23,154 in the first half of 2025. The similarly-sized Polo slipped out of the top 30 ahead of a much anticipated model change later in 2026, which will include an all-electric version.
The Skoda Octavia was the favorite imported car. The Skoda Elroq was Germany’s favorite electric car model and the 11th best-selling model overall during the first half of 2026.
