2024 (First Semester): Volkswagen and Toyota remained the top-selling car brands in Europe during the first half of 2024.
During the first half of 2024, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Renault remained the largest car manufacturers in Europe (EU, EFTA, UK). Volkswagen and Toyota were again the best-selling car brands but BMW moved into third place followed by Skoda. Volvo and Suzuki increased sales sharply while Ford and Tesla struggled. New passenger vehicle registration in Europe (European Union, EFTA, UK) increased by 4.4% to 6,879,438 cars during the first six months of 2024 with Germany the largest European country market.

Largest Carmakers in Europe in 2024 (First Half)
Volkswagen easily remained the largest carmaker in Europe during the first half of 2024 despite market share shrinking by 0.3% to a still dominating 25.6% of the entire European new car market. VW brand underperformed but Porsche was the only large Volkswagen-owned car brand with lower volume sales during the first semester of 2024. Cupra sales increased by a fifth while both Seat and Skoda increased sales by more than a tenth.
Stellantis sales were flat with Peugeot, Opel / Vauxhall, and Fiat all recording lower sales. In contrast, Citroen sales were up by 14% and Jeep sales up 11%.
Renault Group sales were just below market average while Hyundai Group sales in Europe were down by 2% with Kia sales down by 7%.
Toyota Group sales were up 16% with sales of both Toyota and Lexus brands increasing well above market average. The BMW Group similarly gained market share with BMW brand improving strongly.
The most improved carmakers in Europe during the first half of 2024 were Mitsubishi, Alpine, Honda, and Volvo. The worst-performing brands were Mini, DS, Ford, and Tesla.

Volkswagen and Toyota remained the two largest car brands in Europe during the first half of 2024. BMW moved ahead of both Audi and Peugeot in part due to strong battery-electric vehicle sales. Skoda moved up three places to become the fourth largest brand in Europe ahead of Renault, Peugeot, and Audi.
