In full calendar year 2021, BMW of North America car sales in the USA increased strongly for both BMW and Mini brands. BMW brand sales improved to levels higher than in pre-pandemic years while Mini sales were still well below US sales seen in 2019 and 2018. BMW SUVs comprised 60% of all BMW sold in the USA in 2021 with the X3 and X5 the best-selling models. The BMW 3-Series was the top-selling passenger car model.

As for most carmakers in the US and worldwide, BMW struggled with supply chain issues and good sales are expected in 2022 of supply bottle-necks could be eliminated.
BMW Brand Sales in the USA in 2021
For the full year 2021, BMW brand sales in the USA increased 20.8% on total sales of 336,644 compared to the 278,732 vehicles sold in 2020 and around 12,000 more cars than was sold in 2019.
Sales of both BMW passenger cars and BMW light trucks (SUVs) increased strongly in the USA in 2021. Car sales were around 8,000 units lower than in 2019 but SUV sales in 2021 were more than 20,000 units higher than in 2019.
The most popular BMW models in the US in 2021 were the X3 and X5 while the 3-Series was the top-selling BMW passenger car. The full BMW X Model line-up of Sports Activity Vehicles accounted for 60% of 2021 sales.
The first deliveries of the BMW iX and i4 electric-only cars started in the USA during the final quarter of 2021.
Mini Brand Sales in the USA in 2021
For the full year 2021, MINI brand sales increased 6.4% in the USA on total sales of 29,930 vehicles compared to the 28,138 vehicles sold in 2020. However, Mini sales were still much weaker compared to 36,092 cars sold in 2019 and 43,684 in 2018.
