Electric Car Sales in European Countries in 2025 (Full Year)

In 2025, battery-electric vehicle sales in Germany increased by a strong 43%, making the German electric car market again the largest single country for BEV in Europe. Nearly a fifth of all new cars sold in Germany in 2025 were all-electric, with sales expected to grow in 2026 due to new subsidies and the expected launch of cheaper models by Volkswagen. BEV sales in Germany in 2025 were only around 21,000 electric cars more than in 2023, marking 2024 as a truly lost year for battery-electric car market in Germany.

The UK slipped back to second place, although electric cars had a larger share of the British new car market in 2025 than was the case in Germany or third-placed France.

The Norwegian new car market expanded strongly in 2025, with all-electric cars now making up 96% of all passenger vehicle registrations. The Dutch and Danish new car markets expanded similarly, giving electric cars a 68% market share in Denmark and 40% in the Netherlands.

Electric car sales continued to play only a minor role in Spain (9%) and Italy (6%).
