Hyundai Motor Company sold 3,944,579 vehicles worldwide in 2022, a 1.4 percent increase over global sales in 2021. Hyundai forecasts worldwide sales to increase to 4.3 million cars in 2023.

Note: Sales in Korea are based on retail sales while overseas sales (global sales excluding Korea) are based on wholesales. Sales results include all sedan, SUV, and CV models produced by Hyundai Motor.

Despite the challenging business environment caused by the ongoing pandemic and component supply issues, Hyundai sales outside of Korea increased by 2.9 percent to 3,255,695 vehicles. Sales in Korea totaled 688,884 cars, a 5.2 percent decline from 2021. 

The USA was the largest market for Hyundai passenger vehicles. In the full calendar year 2022, Hyundai Motor America sold 724,265 vehicles in the USA — a small decrease of 2% compared with 2021. Hyundai outperformed the industry with forecasts predicting a drop of 8.4% in total sales in the US market.

For December 2022, Hyundai’s monthly global sales totaled 347,340 units, including 276,953 for overseas markets and 70,387 for the Korean market.

In 2023, Hyundai is aiming for global sales of 4.32 million units, including its Genesis luxury brand, with optimized business strategies tailored for each region. The company aims to sell 3.54 million units in overseas markets and 781,000 units in Korea. 

The 2023 forecast is basically the same as Hyundai’s expectations for global sales for 2022 announced at the start of the year.
