2022 (January to December): American Honda had a dismal year with sales in the USA down by 32.9% to 983,507 vehicles. Honda brand sales were down 32.7% to 881,201 vehicles. Accura brand performed even worse with sales down 35% to 102,306 vehicles.

Honda blamed the weak performance in America in 2022 on supply rather than demand problems. Although sales were significantly stronger towards the end of the year, American Honda expects supply issues to continue into 2023 but to a much lesser degree.

As with most other brands, passenger cars performed worse in 2022 than trucks and SUVs. Honda passenger car sales were 40% lower while truck sales contracted by 28%. However, sales of passenger cars of the Acura luxury brand suffered less than trucks.

The Honda CR-V was the most popular Honda vehicle in the USA in 2022 while the Accord was the best-selling Honda passenger car. Sales of the Civic halved but the new model launched at the end of the year may reverse some of these losses. The Ridgeline was the only Honda model to increase sales volume in the US in 2022.

The MDX and RDX were the top-selling Acura models.
